Northampton, MA — For the week ending 11/17/2013, Georgetown’s Elizabeth Johnson and the Naval Academy’s Jim Kacergis have been named the women’s and men’s [hpow].

A [hpow] should have a significant impact on his or her team’s performance during the prior week and demonstrate sportsmanship. Coaches and Sports Information Directors may nominate players.

Elizabeth Johnson (Georgetown): The Georgetown and Johns Hopkins match has been closely contested the past few seasons. Georgetown, ranked 30th, upset 29th-ranked Johns Hopkins, 6-3. Johnson, Georgetown’s number 6, faced Johns Hopkins’ Caroline Plapinger. Like their teams, the two players matched up well. Johnson ultimately prevailed in four games (16-14, 7-11, 11-8, and 11-7).

Jim Kacergis (Naval Academy): With the Navy and Drexel match tied at 3-3, junior Kacergis took to the court at the number two position. He faced Drexel senior Justin Singh. The two played a tight three-game match, with Kacergis ultimately winning (12-10, 11-7, and 11-9). Navy prevailed in the team match 5-4. Kacergis went 4-0 at the Navy Round Robin, with victories against Bucknell, Drexel, Georgetown, and Hobart.
