Northampton, MA — For the week ending 11/10/2013, Haverford’s Caroline Nightingale and Johns Hopkins’ Harrison Finkelstein have been named the women’s and men’s [hpow].

A [hpow] should have a significant impact on his or her team’s performance during the prior week and demonstrate sportsmanship. Coaches and Sports Information Directors may nominate players.

Caroline Nightingale (Haverford): Over the weekend,  Haverford visited New York University. With the match deadlocked at 4-4, Nightingale, Haverford’s #1, faced NYU’s Michelle Yhantovsky. Six of the first eight team matches took four or more games to complete. Nightingale cemented the victory with a 3-0 victory (11-5, 11-0, and 11-3), which allowed the Fords to leave the Empire State with a 5-4 victory.

Harrison Finkelstein (Johns Hopkins): With the match between Johns Hopkins and Virginia tied at 4-4, freshman Finkelstein stepped on court against Virginia’s top player, Ned Whelan. The two battled for over an hour before Finkelstein pulled away to win in five games (10-12, 11-4, 12-10, 9-11, and 11-7). Johns Hopkins won the crucial early season match 5-4.
