2012 Women’s College Squash National Team Championships: Day 1 Afternoon Report

College Squash AssociationBoston, MA — After this afternoon’s matches, the A Division semifinals are set, and the B and C Divisions are underway.

Howe Cup (A Division): The A Division afternoon matches were Princeton versus Stanford and Yale versus Cornell. Princeton clinched a berth in the semifinals early, defeating Stanford 8-1. The Tigers will face Yale in the semifinals. The Bulldogs beat Cornell 9-0, but the score is deceptive because most matches went to four and five games.

Kurtz Cup (B Division): The first B Division match of the tournament was between Columbia and Williams. The Ephs were seeded twelfth overall in the tournament and the Lions were seeded thirteenth, so on paper the match looked like it would be a close one. While many of the matches went beyond three games, the final score was decidedly in the Ephs’ favor: 8-1.

Walker Cup (C Division): Walker Cup play this afternoon featured a match-up between George Washington and Connecticut College. GW rolled through the first round, blanking the Camels and taking each individual match by a score of 3-0. The Colonials will face the winner of the Amherst-Tufts match, which is currently being played. The other B Division matches went on at 4 pm.

Epps Cup (D Division): The Epps Cup matches were all played this morning. The matchups for the semifinals are William Smith-St. Lawrence and Smith-Vassar.

E Division: The E Division matches are scheduled to begin this evening.

Emerging Teams: The Emerging Teams Division matches are scheduled to begin this evening.
