Northampton, MA — For the week ending 2/5/2012, Harvard’s Cece Cortes and Navy’s Colin Barry have been named the women’s and men’s [hpow].

A Harrow Sports College Squash Player of the Week should have a significant impact on his or her team’s performance during the prior week and demonstrate sportsmanship. Coaches and Sports Information Directors may nominate players by contacting Michael T. Bello. Nominations are due each Monday by 6 PM ET.

There were a number of deserving candidates this week. Tuft’s Zach Schweitzer went 3-0 at the NESCAC Championships. Harvarvd’s Tyler Olson won a 3-2 match in Harvard’s 5-4 victory over Cornell. Yale’s Rhetta Nadas went 2-0 with victories against Penn and Princeton.

Cece Cortes (Harvard University): Cortes, Harvard’s co-captain, helped lead the Crimson to victories over Cornell and Columbia. At the #6 position, she defeated Cornell’s Claire Berner (11-8,11-9, and 11-8) and Columbia’s Morgan Strauss (11-2, 11-5, 11-5). The senior has helped the Crimson maintain their undefeated match record.  On Sunday, Harvard and Yale will battle for the Ivy League title.

Colin Barry (United States Naval Academy): Barry, a first-year student, went 2-0 on the weekend with victories over Hobart and Western Ontario.  Against Western Ontario, he played at the #5 position against Kale Wilson.  The match was tied at 2-2 and Barry was down 7-10 in the fifth game; however, he roared back to capture the game and the match (13-11, 11-7, 7-11, 5-11, and 13-11).  The victory clinched Navy’s first win against Western Ontario in program history.
