Northampton, MA — For the week ending 12/4/2011, Tufts’ Risa Meyer and Franklin & Marshall’s Guilherme De Melo and Mauricio Sedano have been named the women’s and men’s [hpow].

A Harrow Sports College Squash Player of the Week should have a significant impact on his or her team’s performance during the prior week and demonstrate sportsmanship. Coaches and Sports Information Directors may nominate players by contacting Michael T. Bello. Nominations are due each Monday by 6 PM ET.

There were many great nominees this week.  For the men, Wesleyan’s Ethan Mortiz displayed exemplary sportsmanship as he went 5-0 at the Wesleyan Round Robin. Conn’s Mike Coscarelli had a 4-2 record on the weekend at the Wesleyan and Trinity Round Robins. At Ithaca College’s Squash Invitational, Brad Koloder led his team to victories over Bard and Siena.

For the women, Mount Holyoke’s Shaheen Madraswala went 4-0 on the weekend, including a victory against Brown. Penn’s Courtney Jones helped lead the Quakers to a 6-3 victory over 3rd-ranked Princeton. Trinity’s Lindsay McDonough went 2-0 on the weekend with victories over Conn and George Washington.

Risa Meyers (Tufts University):  The Jumbos’ Meyer collected victories over Smith, William Smith, and Colby at the Wesleyan Round Robin. The 21st-ranked Jumbos faced stiff competition from 23rd-ranked Colby. Meyer, the #7 player, clinched her team’s 5-4 win. She defeated Coco Cowan in four games  (12-10, 11-8, 8-11, and 13-11).

Guilherme De Melo (Franklin & Marshall) and Mauricio Sedano (Franklin & Marshall): On the weekend, De Melo and Sedano had equally impressive 2-0 records. At the number 2 position, De Melo defeated Yale’s Hywel Robinson (11-6, 11-8, and 11-9) and Bates’ Kristian Muldoon (9-11, 9-11, 11-3, 11-5, and 11-3). He is undefeated on the season with earlier victories over Princeton’s Chris Callis and Dartmouth’s Nick Sisodia. Like De Melo, Sedano went undefeated on the weekend with victories over Yale’s Richard Dodd (11-9, 11-7, 5-11, and 11-7) and Bates’ RJ Keating (12-10, 11-3, and 11-6). F&M’s number 3 player has also defeated Dartmouth’s Luke Lee and Princeton’s Kelly Shannon this season.
