Hamilton: 2011 – 2012 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

Clinton, NY — After winning the Chaffee Award for team sportsmanship on Saturday night during the 2010-2011 Women’s National Team Championships, Hamilton faced a difficult test: a heart-breaking 4-5 loss to F&M in the Walker Cup finals. But as expected, the Continentals bounced back with grace and class, and now they have their sights on returning to the B Division.

The team lost a trio of seniors, including captain Anne Edelstein, the winningest player in Hamilton women’s squash history. This season, however, the team will see the return of former number 2 Alyssa Bawden from study abroad and injury. Head coach Jamie King, the 2011 NESCAC Coach of the Year, says that Bawden, who will serve as captain, should provide  “a great foundation of leadership and positive mentoring for the young players.”

Among the younger members of the team are a trio of new players who are expected to find spots in the bottom three. They are Elizabeth Morris, a first-year player from the Millbrook School; Isabelle Weisman, a transfer student who hails from Westfield, NJ; and Katherine Rogers, a graduate of Choate.

Former assistant coach Ark Oakes has moved on to accept a psychology teaching position at St. Lawrence, but Brown alum Dan Jonas will continue to assist the team.
