Northampton, MA — This weekend included a series of upsets, the Hamilton Invitational, and the Wesleyan Round Robin.
All teams that competed this weekend MUST record their match scores as soon as possible in the US Squash Database. If scores are not reported, it is impossible to rank teams accurately, and penalties, including possible removal from the rankings, will occur.
Many teams need to add their players to the US Squash Database and fix the “Not on Roster” entries.
Teams are also reminded that acceptable eyewear (eye protection) is required for all college squash matches, including warmups and match play. Standard eyewear (i.e. everyday prescription glasses) may not be worn in place of acceptable eyewear.
The men’s team at Franklin & Marshall had a successful week. The 10th-ranked Diplomats hosted 9th-ranked Penn on Wednesday. F&M only lost one position to capture the match 8-1. Like many other teams this weekend, F&M headed to the Clinton, NY area. On their way north, they defeated #11 Williams, 8-1, on Friday, before defeating #16 St. Lawrence, 8-1, and Hamilton, 9-0, to conclude the weekend.
Harvard’s men also travelled also to upstate New York. On Saturday, the 5th-ranked Crimson lost 2-7 to 6th-ranked Cornell. This was the second time in the Harvard-Cornell rivalry that the Big Red have defeated Harvard. On Sunday, Harvard lost to #4 Rochester, 9-0.

Hamilton’s women hosted Colgate, St. Lawrence, and Franklin & Marshall over the weekend. The 15th-ranked Continentals defeated St. Lawrence and Colgate, but lost to 19th-ranked F&M 4-5.
Going into the weekend, St. Lawrence’s men had never defeated the Naval Academy; however the #16 Saints handed the 13th-ranked Midshipmen their second loss of the season, 1-8. “My hat’s off to St. Lawrence,” said Navy head coach Craig Dawson. “They have been nipping at our heels over the last two years and they finally got us. We had some close matches today, but they won all of them and deserved to win the match.” Both St. Lawrence and Navy defeated Hamilton.
Trinity’s men opened the season on Saturday. The Bantams extended their win streak to 228 matches with wins over Williams, Bates, Bowdoin, and George Washington. George Washington defeated #15 Bowdoin.
Williams’ women defeated F&M on Friday, but lost to Princeton on Sunday.
Williams’ men returned home from Hartford on Sunday to face Princeton. The Tigers defeated both Williams and Middlebury.
At the Wesleyan Round Robin, the 23rd-ranked Colby Mules were upset in a closely contested match by 29th-ranked Wesleyan, 2-7. In fact, Wesleyan did very well at their round robin, going 4-1. The Cardinals defeated #22 Tufts, #23 Colby, and #26 Georgetown, and lost to #19 George Washington. Wesleyan appears ready to move up in the next rankings.
Also in men’s action, the 28th-ranked Connecticut College Camels defeated #26 Georgetown and #23 Colby.
Mount Holyoke had a successful Wesleyan Round Robin. The Lyons went 4-0 with shutout victories over Wellesley, William Smith, Connecticut College, and Wesleyan.
The Wesleyan women played seven matches in three days. They defeated Tufts, William Smith, Colby, and Smith, but lost to Middlebury, George Washington, and Mount Holyoke.
William Smith earned victories over Smith and Wellesley, while Smith, despite hard fought matches, went winless on the weekend.

The Yale men and women opened play with wins over Penn and Bates. The women’s match between Yale and Penn was extremely close. Yale won 5-4. Penn captured ladder positions two through five in the loss.
