Northampton, MA — This weekend included the Fall Classic, Liberty League Championship, a round robin in Boston, and National Championship banner celebrations.
All teams that competed this weekend MUST record their match scores as soon as possible in the US Squash Database. If scores are not reported, it is impossible to rank teams accurately, and penalties, including possible removal from the rankings, will occur.
Teams are also reminded that Annual Dues and Team Championship Fees are coming due for most teams on December 1st and many teams need to add their players to the US Squash Database.
Dartmouth hosted the Fall Classic over the weekend. The Big Green men had a perfect opening weekend. They defeated Navy, Stanford, Bowdoin, and Hamilton each by a 9-0 score. Stanford’s men, ranked 22nd in the preseason rankings, rebounded from their loss to Dartmouth by defeating #21 Hamilton 6-3. Bowdoin’s men also defeated Hamilton.
Like the men, Dartmouth’s women went undefeated at the Fall Classic. They shutout both Bowdoin and Hamilton. Hamilton’s women beat Bowdoin 8-1.

In the men’s Liberty League Championship, Rochester captured its forth consecutive title. The #4 ranked Yellowjackets defeated Hobart, St. Lawrence, and the host of the 2010 tournament, Vassar. St. Lawrence defeated Hobart to claim second place, while Vassar finished fourth.
With only three women’s schools having varsity squash programs in the Liberty League, it was decided not to hold a women’s championship this season. Vassar’s women defeated Smith College 6-3 on Thursday night.
Stanford’s women were also on the East Coast. They visited Hartford on Saturday to face both Trinity and Mount Holyoke. The Cardinal team came up just short against the #3 Bantams, losing 4-5, but rebounded by defeating Mount Holyoke 9-0. Trinity also shutout the Lyons.
On Sunday, Mount Holyoke hosted Tufts and Smith. The Lyons concluded the weekend 2-2 after defeating the Jumbos and the Pioneers. Tufts only lost the #9 match in its win over Smith.
Harvard celebrated last season’s championships on Friday. Banners were raised for the 2010 Howe Cup, the 2010 Pool Trophy (men’s individual title), and the 2010 Ramsay Cup (women’s individual title). The women had three shutout victories over Brown, Stanford, and Williams to begin their quest to repeat as Howe Cup champions. Harvard’s men also defeated Brown and Williams.
Franklin & Marshall’s men narrowly lost to Cornell, 4-5. The #10 Diplomats appear on a mission to move higher in the rankings and the upcoming match with Williams on December 3rd might be the next step. Penn’s women defeated Cornell, while the men lost 4-5 to the Big Red.
The Princeton women beat Columbia and F&M to open their season.
In the Mid West, Notre Dame hosted Purdue. The Boilermakers made the most of their trip to South Bend by defeating the Fighting Irish 8-1.
After starting the season 4-0, Wellesley had a challenging second weekend of play at the Boston Round Robin. The Blue lost to Bates, Colby, Conn College, and Wesleyan.
Also at the Boston Round Robin, Wesleyan’s men opened the season 2-1 with victories over Northeastern and MIT and a loss to Bates.
