Brown: 2010 – 2011 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Providence, RI — Brown ended a challenging 2009-2010 season on a positive note. After losing to Bates and Bowdoin in the first two rounds of the Men’s National Team Champions, Brown defeated St. Lawrence 7-2, pushing the Bears’ season record to 5-11.

Three seniors from the team graduated last spring: Alex Heitzmann and co-captains Adam Greenberg and Pat Davis. Evan Besser, Ben Clayman, and Adrian Leanza will take over as tri-captains.

The three captains will be leading a squad with five new first-year players. Blake Reisen, who comes to Brown from Calgary, is expected to play in the top 3, and St. Paul’s grad Tod Holberton should play somewhere in the middle of the line-up. Choate’s Chip Lebovitz, Nick Lee of King’s Academy, Jordan, and Patrick O’Neill from Paris, France, will compete for spots in the bottom third of the varsity ladder.

Another addition to the Brown program is new assistant coach Sean Wilkinson. Wilkinson, a 2008 Bates grad, was a three-year captain for the Bobcats. Wilkinson was also named to the first-ever All-NESCAC team.

The Bears’ will have the benefit of training in the recently upgraded Kate Brodsky Squash Pavilion. “The entire squash pavilion has been revamped with new floors, new video recording cameras installed behind three courts, new bleachers, graphic designs around the seating areas, and new furniture and carpeting,” reports head coach Stuart leGassick.

The Bears’ first match in the refurbished facility will be against Princeton in early December, and they’ll also host Penn, Bowdoin, and Trinity during the season.
