Williams: 2010 – 2011 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

Williamstown, MA — Williams has finished in the top 8 every season except one since Zafi Levy took over as head coach in 2003, and the one year the Ephs finished outside the top 8 they won the “B” Division title. Williams will seek to continue their streak of “A” Division berths into the 2010-2011 season.

The Ephs will, however, be competing without their top two players for the past few seasons: Toby Eyre and Jennifer Coxe. Coxe, who played number 2 for the Ephs, won the Holleran Cup (“B” Division) at the 2009 Individual Championships, and Eyre, who played the top spot, was a four-time All-American. Eyre and Coxe both were named to the All-NESCAC team for past three seasons as well. The Ephs have also lost Caroline Henry, who played number 5, and Julia Reiser, who played number 8.

For returners, the Ephs will have First-Team All-NESCAC selection Courtney Bogle back near the top of the ladder; Bogle, a junior, played behind Eyre and Coxe last season. Laura Henry, Allie Rubin, and Kavitha Mannava, who all played in the middle of the ladder, will all be back, as will junior Carolyn Kaemmer and sophomore Hannah Kaemmer. Joining the Kaemmers at the bottom of the ladder will be two first-year players, Gibbs Cullen and Alyssa Northrup. Mannava, the lone senior on the team, will lead the Ephs as captain.

The Williams team will also have the benefit of working with former Trinity All-American Nayelly Hernandez, the Ephs’ new assistant coach.
