Around the Courts: College Squash Weekend Highlights (2/14/2010)

Northampton, MA — In the final weekend of the regular season for most squads, rivalry matches were on the agenda.

Harvard traveled to Yale for a much anticipated match-up.  On the women’s side, the 5th-ranked Bulldogs lost 2-7 to the top-ranked Crimson. WIth the victory, Harvard finished the season with a 9-0 overall record and a 6-0 record in Ivy League play.  This marked the first Ivy League Championship for the Crimson since 2006.  For the men, Yale defeated Harvard by a 8-1 margin to conclude their Ivy League schedule with a 6-0 record.  This is the Bulldogs’ first Ivy League Championship since 2006 when Yale split the championship with Princeton and Harvard.  The Bulldogs last won a sole Ivy League title in 1990.

On Saturday, the top-ranked Trinity men welcomed 4th-ranked Princeton to Hartford. This was a rematch of last season’s Potter Cup championship match.  This weekend, the Bantams completed their regular season sweep of the current top seven teams in the rankings (Yale, Rochester, Princeton, Harvard, Cornell, Dartmouth) with a combined 52-2 individual match record. Trinity appears intent on capturing its 12th consecutive National Championship.

Colby hosted the Bowdoin women. The 16th-ranked Mules defeated the 23rd-ranked Polar Bears 7-2.
