Around the Courts: College Squash Weekend Highlights (2/6/2010)

Northampton, MA — On Saturday, Vassar hosted the annual Seven Sisters Squash Championships.  In the semifinals, Mount Holyoke defeated Wellesley and Vassar defeated Smith.  In the finals, Mount Holyoke defeated Vassar 9-0 for their fourth consecutive Seven Sisters Championship.  With the victory, Mount Holyoke and Vassar tied for the most sole Seven Sister Championship victories.  Smith also defeated Wellesley to finish third.  CollegeSquashAssociation.com will have more coverage of the Seven Sisters Championship during the week.

This weekend the 2010 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Squash Championships brought 22 men’s and women’s teams to Trinity College.  The NESCAC tournament is celebrating its 4th year.  Once again this season, Trinity’s men and women defeated Williams in the finals.  For both Bantam squads, this was their fourth consecutive NESCAC championship. In Ivy League action, Harvard’s men defeated Penn 7-2 on Saturday. For the women, Harvard defeated Penn 8-1.  In the top match, Harvard’s Laura Gemmell and Penn’s Kristen Lange, the 3rd and 2nd ranked players in the nation, respectively, squared off. Gemmell took the match in three games.

Also on Saturday, Princeton traveled to Dartmouth. Both the men’s and women’s squads defeated the Big Green.  These wins set up an Ivy League showdown between Princeton and Harvard.  The Crimson women emerged with a 6-3 victory to remain undefeated in Ivy League play.   The Tigers were victorious in the men’s match, 7-2.
