Haverford Squash Alums Play, Raise Money for Haiti

Haverford, PA — Former Haverford squash players from around the country returned to Pennsylvania on January 23rd to compete in the Alumni Match. Coming from as far away as Oregon and Miami and representing classes from 1975 to 2009, the Haverford grads took on the current varsity teams and helped raise money for victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

Former Haverford head squash coach Sean Sloane reports:

The alums demonstrated their rusty but effective squash skills on the appreciative varsity squads. In the spirit of the day, match scores were not submitted, but all involved agreed that the alumni/ae were both highly skilled and highly motivated! Adding to the festive occasion, the women’s varsity squad offered a bake sale while head coach Damon Leedale-Brown organized a blind auction featuring squash racquets and a private lesson, all in the name of Haiti relief efforts. Total proceeds for Haiti were $770!

Among the alumni participating were Eric Lundquist ’09, Jeff Monhait ’09, Evan Stiegel ’09, Emma Bartlett ’08, Marc Adelberg ’08, Jason Bazarsky ’08, Dan Sacks ’08, Alex Salton ’08, Curt Fentress ’07, Elmar Trust ’07, Julie Herskowitz ’06, Sam Morgan ’06, Elif Sen ’06, Amy Kim ’05, Arie Beitman ’04, Julia Grayer ’04, Aaron Scherb ’04, Andrew Poolman ’03, Abby Stern ’03, David Bernfeld ’01, Shanin Specter ’80, and Ken Norris ’75.

Both Haverford squads return to action on Saturday, hosting the Diplomats of Franklin & Marshall.
