Northampton, MA — The college squash season is back in full swing. The majority of the 65-plus men’s and women’s matches this weekend were played in Connecticut at Trinity, Wesleyan, and Yale.
Hobart, the 29th-ranked men’s squad, had a challenging weekend facing Colby (20th), Conn (25th), and Wesleyan (27th). They lost 4-5 to both Colby and Conn College; however, they earned a 5-4 victory over Wesleyan.
On Friday, Trinity College hosted Cornell. The men earned a 9-0 victory, while the women earned a 8-1 victory. On Sunday, the Trinity women also shutout Stanford and Bates.
Mount Holyoke, currently the 11th-ranked women’s team, faced a slew of top squads at Yale. They lost to highly ranked Cornell and Yale, but shutout 15th-ranked Bowdoin. Yale’s women defeated Cornell 7-2 and Stanford 6-3. By defeating the 5th- and 6th-ranked teams in the nation, the 4th-ranked Bulldogs appear to have solidified their ranking. The Yale men also defeated Cornell.
Outside of Connecticut, Williams College opened the weekend with matches against Penn. Penn’s women cruised to a 9-0 victory. In the number 1 match, first year player Nabilla Ariffin defeated third-ranked Toby Eyre 3-1. Ariffin is currently ranked 24th in the latest individual rankings. For the men, it was a tight match. The Quakers won three five-game matches to escape with a 5-4 victory. Both Penn squads defeated Amherst to close the weekend.

Next weekend, the New England college squash scene moves north to Western Massachusetts. The annual Smith/Mount Holyoke Invitational will be held in Northampton and South Hadley.
