Wellesley: 2009 – 2010 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

WellesleyWellesley, MA — Wellesley came into the 2008-2009 season with a preseason ranking of 23rd, but after a series of injuries, the team limped in to finish 31st. With number 1 Sarah Odell healthy and back in the lineup, the 2009 Chaffee Award-winning Blue are ready to get back where they were a year ago.

Odell, who helped the US win a team silver medal at the 2009 Maccabiah Games, and fellow senior Ashley Stevens will lead the team. Odell should return to number 1, but the player who replaced her in the lineup, Andrea Mui, has transferred and will not be playing for the Blue. The team has lost three other players to graduation and expects the openings to be filled once practices get under way.

Wellesley will be able to gauge its status when the Blue take on Smith in early November. Wellesley soundly defeated the Pioneers last November but lost later lost to them at Seven Sisters, having to forfeit several matches because of injury. Wesleyan will be another key match as the Blue try to climb back up the rankings.
