Hamilton: 2009 – 2010 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

hamiltonClinton, NY — The Hamilton Continentals won the consolation finals of the 2008-2009 Summers Cup. This season, they hope to contend for the C Division title.

Hamilton will be without its top two players from last year, John Dewitt and Sander Doucette, who both graduated. The Continentals have also lost their number 5, Rick Munchauser, and their number 10, Roly Morris, to graduation. They won’t, however, be without a Munchauser: Rick’s brother Lyman will be one of three first-year players on the team. Ronald German and Harry Keeshan are expected to play somewhere between 6 and 9 on the ladder, while Lyman Munchauser will probably play around number 10. The team’s three seniors — Mario Magana, Brett Morrell, and Jonathan Peters — will captain the team.

Matches with teams like Bowdoin, Colby, Middlebury, and Tufts will help the Continentals gauge where they stand in the C Division. A good test should be the NESCAC championships, where they finished sixth last year. Hamilton hopes to improve upon that result as well as to maintain high standards of ethical play and behavior, on and off the court. The “team is built on character and skill improvement,” explains head coach Jamie King.

Over the summer, Hamilton was the site of the Continental Squash Camp. Students had the chance to enjoy what King describes as “a game of on-court death with the 172-mile-an-hour-hitting John White providing hair-raising precision shot-making.”
