Princeton, NJ — The 2017 Women’s College Squash Association National Team Championships had great team and individual performances. In this special edition of the Harrow Sports College Squash Player of the Week, we recognize a player from each division of the tournament.
Howe Cup (A Division) – Dileas MacGowan (Harvard University): As Harvard’s senior co-captain, Dileas MacGowan played in her 4th Howe Cup final. Playing at the #9 position in the final, she helped Harvard win the first wave of matches with a 3-game victory over Penn’s Lindsay Stanley (11-6, 11-3, and 11-5). Harvard and MacGowan earned their 3rd Howe Cup in the past four years.
Kurtz Cup (B Division) – Rebecca Brownell (Dartmouth College): In a close Kurtz Cup final, each point was crucial for Dartmouth and Drexel. Recovering from a 0-2 game deficit, the Big Green’s Rebecca Brownell won a five-game match at the #4 position against Drexel’s Mary Fung-A-Fat (5-11, 5-11, 11-7, 11-5, and 11-6) to clinch the team match.
Walker Cup (C Division) – Haley McAtee (Amherst College): After losing the Walker Cup 4-5 last season to Bates, Amherst was ready for a close match in this season’s final against Franklin & Marshall. At the match at the #5 position, Amherst’s Haley McAtee faced F&M’s Katherine Galambos. McAtee captured the match in five games (12-10, 12-14, 7-11, 11-5, and 11-3) to give Amherst the crucial point in their 5-4 team victory.
Epps Cup (D Division) – Devin Mullaney (Colby College): Colby, the Epps Cup’s top-seeded squad, won their first ever Women’s National Team Championship division title this season. Junior captain Devin Mullaney had three victories to help the Mules to the Epps Cup crown. She defeated the #1s from Bucknell, Mount Holyoke, and Hamilton.
E Division – Isabelle Gotuaco (Haverford College): Haverford’s junior co-captain Isabelle Gotuaco went 3-0 at the 2017 Women’s College Squash National Team Championships. As the Fords’ top player, she earned victories over Washington in St. Louis, Colgate, and Georgetown. Gotuaco helped Haverford to a second place finish in the E Division.
