Hatfield, MA — For the week ending 11/13/2016, William Smith’s Gaby Fraser and the Naval Academy’s Jack Herold have been named the women’s and men’s [hpow].

A [hpow] should have a significant impact on his or her team’s performance during the prior week and demonstrate sportsmanship. Coaches and Sports Information Directors may nominate players.

Gabby Fraser (William Smith College): At the Colgate round robin over the weekend, William Smith and Vassar met. At the match at the #1 position, first year player Gabby Fraser faced Vassar’s junior tri-captain Hannah Nice. After being down 0-2 in games, Fraser came back to capture the match in five games (11-13, 8-11, 11-3,  11-6, and 11-9). William Smith went 3-0 at the event and is 5-0 through the weekend.

Jack Herold (United States Naval Academy): At Navy’s round robin, the 14th-ranked Midshipmen concluded a win over Dickinson and less than an hour later, began a match with Virginia, last season’s top-ranked club team (19th in the rankings). At the #1 position, Herold faced Virginia’s Toby Hansford. According to Navy coach Craig Dawson, “with the overall match knotted at 4-4. Herold won (11-8, 11-8, and 11-7) to clinch the victory for Navy.” Through the weekend, the Midshipmen are 7-0 on the season. Herold and Randy Beck were the 2016-17 National Intercollegiate Doubles Champions.
