El Halaby Inducted into Men’s College Squash Hall of Fame

Princeton UniversityStamford, CT — In March at the CSA Gala hosted by Chelsea Piers (CT), Yasser El Halaby (Princeton University, Class of 2006) was inducted into the Men’s College Squash Association Hall of Fame.

To be considered for the Hall of Fame, a player must be ten years beyond graduation. That time period could not end soon enough for the induction of El Halaby. After all, he was the first male player to ever capture four consecutive Pool Trophies (individual championships).

During his freshman year, El Halaby let the Ivy League know he had arrived. He was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year and the Ivy League Player of the Year. This was the first time a Tigers’ player had captured both honors in a single season. Princeton went undefeated in Ivy League play to earn an Ivy League Championship,  going 10-2 overall. Their losses were to Trinity, once in the regular season and in the Potter Cup (national championship) final.

As a sophomore, El Halaby repeated as Ivy League Player of the Year. Going 9-4 overall in team play, the Tigers made it to the national championship final, but lost to Trinity, 3-6.

During the 2004 – 2005 season, El Halaby captured his third Pool Trophy and Ivy League Player of the Year honor. He became only the fifth player and first non-Harvard player to capture three Pool Trophies.

For his senior season, El Halaby, the Princeton captain, cemented his hold on the Pool Trophy. He became the first male player to capture the individual championship four times. In team play, Princeton captured a share of the Ivy League title and lost in the national championship final to Trinity, 4-5. El Halaby was presented with the Men’s College Squash Association Skillman Award.

El Halaby, a four-time All-American, finished his Princeton career with a 54-6 record. He was 20-0 in Pool Trophy play.
