Sports Illustrated’s Faces in the Crowd Covers Bates Junior

Lewiston, ME — In the recent (4/6/2015) issue of Sports Illustrated, Bates College junior Ahmed Abdel Khalek was recognized in the “Faces in the Crowd” section of the magazine. Dating to 1956, “Faces in the Crowd” has featured thousands of top amateur athletes.

Abdel Khalek was recognized for capping an undefeated season with an 0-2 comeback victory over Columbia freshman Osama Khalifa to gain the Pool Trophy (Men’s Individual Championship).

In recent years, numerous College Squash Association athletes have been featured in “Faces in the Crowd,” including Trinity’s Anna Kimberley (March 2014), St. Lawrence’s Amr Khaled Khalifa (March 2013), Harvard’s Amanda Sobhy (March 2012), Princeton’s Todd Harrity (March 2012), Navy’s Andrew McGuinness (February 2012), Harvard’s Laura Gemmell (June 2010), and Conn College’s Antonio Diaz-Gonzalez Salas (March 2009).
