Vanderbilt: 2013 – 2014 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

Vanderbilt UniversityNashville, TN — After winning the 2013 Emerging Teams Division, Vanderbilt hopes to compete as a nine-player squad in 2014. “We won the Emerging Teams Division without a formal coach,” explains Lindsey Kelt, who will captain the team along with Victoria Coussa, Hannah Elbaum, and Elizabeth Ross. “Our team goal is mainly to improve our skill level. We hope to bring a full team of nine people to nationals this year and qualify in a higher division than the Emerging Teams.” Three new players will help the Commodores reach their goals: Allison Zeigler, Bess Butler, and Caroline Miller. The two new courts Vanderbilt recently built will also help the team’s efforts. The Commodores have pointed to Virginia and Notre Dame as major opponents during the season. According to Kelt, “UVA will be a key match for us because they are our only southern opponent and will challenge our skill level. Notre Dame will also be a key match for us because they are another emerging club program; a match against Notre Dame will allow both teams to further develop our squash programs.”
