Northampton, MA — For the week ending 1/13/2013, Princeton’s Hallie Dewey and Navy’s Cotter Walker have been named the women’s and men’s [hpow].
A [hpow] should have a significant impact on his or her team’s performance during the prior week and demonstrate sportsmanship. Coaches and Sports Information Directors may nominate players. Nominations are due each Monday by 6 PM ET.
There were a number of worthy candidates this week, including Harvard’s Laura Gemmell, who went 2-0 on the week, and Bowdoin’s Andrew Hilboldt, who is 3-0 in 2013.
Hallie Dewey (Princeton University): On Saturday, Princeton hosted top-ranked Harvard. Dewey, sophomore, faced Harvard’s Isabelle Dowling in the match at the #8 position. After falling behind 0-2, Dewey came back to win the final three games, which included a 11-9 victory in the fifth game (5-11, 10-12, 11-3, 11-6, and 11-9). Dewey’s victory was the third individual victory of the day for the Tigers, who went on to defeat the Crimson.
Cotter Walker (Naval Academy): Navy senior Cotter Walker helped the Midshipmen upset 11th-ranked Western Ontario. At the #9 position, Walker faced Western Ontario’s Matt Sharpe. After winning the first game, Walker was down 1-2 going into the fourth game. He went on to win the match in five games (11-9, 7-11, 6-11, 11-6, and 11-7). His victory helped Navy record the team victory, 5-4.
