Princeton, NJ — Peter Yik, a former standout player at Princeton University, is the newest inductee into the Men’s College Squash Hall of Fame.
Induction into the Men’s College Squash Hall of Fame is an honor reserved for the top players, coaches, and friends of college squash. For players, Hall of Fame awards are given for overall excellence exhibited during an individual’s college career, usually (but not necessarily) including at least one win of the collegiate individual championships. To be considered for the Hall of Fame, a player must be ten years beyond graduation.
Yik, who graduated from Princeton in 2000, amassed an impressive collection of distinctions during his collegiate squash career. He was a four-time first-team All-American, and he won the men’s national individual championships twice, in 1999 and 2000. He was also named to four consecutive All-Ivy League teams.
In his senior year, he received the Skillman Award, the Men’s College Squash Association’s top individual honor. The award, named for former Yale coach John Skillman, is given annually to a senior men’s squash player who has demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship during his entire college career. Yik shared the 2000 award with Tim Wyant of Harvard.
During his time at Princeton, Yik earned recognition for his athletic accomplishments from outside of the squash community, being featured in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd.” Yik returned to Princeton to be inducted into the Hall of Fame during the 2012 Men’s National Team Championships. He was honored at the awards ceremony on the second night of the tournament and also recognized before Princeton’s historic victory over Trinity in the national championship final. Before a crowd of cheering Tigers fans, Princeton head coach Bob Callahan presented Yik with a framed copy of the “Faces in the Crowd” feature.
Yik is the eighth Princeton player to be inducted into the Men’s College Squash Hall of Fame, and the first since Frank Stanley was inducted in 2003. Former Princeton coach John Conroy is also a member of the Hall of Fame. The last player inducted into the Men’s Hall of Fame was Adrian Ezra of Harvard in 2004.
