2012 Academic All-Ivy League Team Announced

Ivy LeaguePrinceton, NJ — Earlier this year, the Ivy League announced the student-athletes who earned Academic All-Ivy honors for the 2011-2012 winter sports season. Fourteen squash players earned Academic All-Ivy honors.

Each season, the eight schools in the Ivy League each nominate ten student-athletes (five men and five women) for Academic All-Ivy honors. To be nominated, players must be starters or key reserves, must compete on a recognized varsity team, and must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

In addition to their exploits in the classroom, this year’s Academic All-Ivy squash players have had many achievements on the courts. Seven student-athletes were named to both the All-Ivy and Academic All-Ivy teams: Julie Cerullo (Princeton), Alex Domenick (Cornell),  Ali Farag (Harvard), Laura Gemmell (Harvard), Rachael Goh (Penn), Chris Hanson (Dartmouth), and Thomas Mattsson (Penn). Farag was also named 2012 Ivy League Player of the Year and Co-Rookie of the Year. Cerullo, Gemmell, and Hanson were all named to the Academic All-Ivy team for the second year in a row.

Katie Quan is the first women’s squash player in Columbia history to earn Academic All-Ivy honors, and the second Columbia player ever to do so; Clayton Dahlman was named to the 2011 team. Columbia first competed as a varsity program in 2011, and this was the Lions’ first season playing a full Ivy League schedule.

Congratulations to all who earned Academic All-Ivy honors!
