Princeton, NJ — The 2011-2012 women’s squash All-Ivy League team was announced earlier this year.
Harvard first-year Amanda Sobhy added several all-conference honors to her collection of post-season distinctions. After going undefeated in her first season of intercollegiate play, Sobhy helped the Crimson win the 2012 national team title before defeating Millie Tomlinson of Yale for the national individual title, earning First Team All-American honors along the way. Sobhy was a unanimous choice for Ivy League Player of the Year, and she picked up the title Ivy League Rookie of the Year as well.
Sobhy’s Harvard teammate, Nirasha Guruge, was the lone senior on the All-Ivy team. Guruge was the 2008-2009 Ivy League Rookie of the Year and was named to the All-Ivy team in 2009 and 2010. Guruge, Harvard’s senior co-captain, won two national team titles with the Crimson and was a four-time All-American.
Due to ties in voting, the All-Ivy team was expanded to twelve players. Seven players were unanimous selections to the team: Nabilla Ariffin (Penn), Julie Cerullo (Princeton), Laura Gemmell (Harvard), Kimberley Hay (Yale), Danielle Letourneau (Cornell), Sobhy, and Tomlinson.
