Brown: 2011 – 2012 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Providence, RI — Brown’s goals for this season include finishing in the top 10 nationally and reaching the Hoehn Cup finals. After having over 20 scholar athletes from the men’s and women’s teams during the past three years, the Bears are also looking to encourage even more players to work toward that distinction.

The team will likely be stronger after winter break, when number 5 Chris Holter and an number 8 Alexander Hsu return from study abroad. By January, the newest Bears will have also had time to acclimate to collegiate play. Avi Bhavnani of Pingry, NJ, is expected to play in the middle 3, and Neel Swami of Westminster School in Atlanta is expected to play in the bottom 3. Shane Fishback and Andrew Powers, both of Pennsylvania, will likely play around the top 10.

Brown also welcomes former Connecticut College assistant coach Pete Avitable to the coaching staff this season. Avitable succeeds Sean Wilkinson, who is now at Drexel.

“Our team works hard and values the friendships teammates make with each other,” says head coach Stuart leGassick.
