The U.S. Naval Academy hosted the Dickinson men’s team on Wednesday evening for a long awaited rematch. The two teams met at the Conroy Cup semi-finals back in February where Dickinson defeated Navy in a tough 5-4 match. This year, Navy returned the favor with a 6-3 victory.
The courts were lively as fans filed in for the last home match of the fall semester and “the energy and atmosphere they created did not go unnoticed” Tyler Osborne, Men’s Head Squash Coach, shares. Osborne and his team are “incredibly appreciative of the opportunity to show [their] sport in front of the larger Naval Academy community, and being named the CSA Match of the Week certainly helped spread the word and get a few new faces out last evening”.
Navy went into the match strong and took an early 2-0 lead but it was the middle of their ladder that secured the win against Dickinson. Osborne explains “it’s always such a great battle between our two schools. Seeing each other as often as we have over the past several seasons means there is little left for surprise. We know what we are going to get with our two programs and we know it’s going to be a fight until the end, and tonight was no different. The guys knew that they had to bring their best stuff, and be there to support one another and I think we did that this evening. I’m very proud of our guys”.
Osborne and his team head into this weekend with a 6-1 record. The Navy men will be on the road this weekend to take on Penn and Bates in Philadelphia. While the men are feeling confident after this CSA Match of the Week win, Osborne reminds us “every match across the CSA is hard, but we look forward to the opportunity to compete alongside our teammates once again”.
