12/13/2018 Dunlop College Squash Team Rankings Released

The College Squash Association has released the third set of team rankings for the 2018-2019 season and the final rankings that will be published in the 2018 calendar year. The next rankings publication date is in mid-January.

For the second rankings period in a row, there was more movement within the rankings on the men’s side than within the women’s standings.

Causing the biggest upheaval among the men’s teams was Princeton University, who jumped four spots to No. 9 after turning things around following their opening-season loss at University of Virginia.  Princeton’s wins over then-No. 4 St. Lawrence University and then-No. 9 Drexel University sent both schools tumbling to No. 10 and No. 11, respectively.

The No. 4 University of Pennsylvania men also earned two big victories to improve their position, moving up two spots after victories over St. Lawrence and No. 5 University of Rochester.  The U.S. Naval Academy is the other beneficiary of the action in the top 12 spots, riding their fast start to a Top-8 place at No. 8.  Farther down the standings, No. 23 Bowdoin College leapfrogged a few teams with their tight 5-4 win over Tufts University last weekend.

For the most part, the rankings in the women’s division held true with a few notable exceptions.  The University of Virginia’s victory over then-No. 8 Cornell University knocked the Big Red down four spots to No. 12.  Similarly, Mount Holyoke College’s impressive win over then-No. 24 St. Lawrence has the Saints women now sitting in 28th position.  Right behind them, No. 29 Haverford College moves up on the back of a strong 5-0 start, including a win over Vassar College.

Once again, several club teams made their first appearances in the rankings for the season after competing in the requisite number of matches.
