George Washington: 2015 – 2016 Women’s College Squash Season Preview

George Washington UniversityWashington, DC — Last season marked George Washington’s first appearance in the Howe Cup (A Division) at Team Championships. Unfortunately, a blizzard cut the Colonials’ appearance at the top level of Team Championships short, so they are anxious to punch their return ticket this season. Returning eight of nine players from the starting line-up of Team Championships will help tremendously with this goal. According to head coach Wendy Lawrence, “The GW Women’s team has been building every year into a program that finds ways to win important matches. They train hard in the gym and focus on ways to improve something in their game every season.” Leading the Colonials will be co-captain Anna Porras. As in the past three years, she enters her senior season set to play #1 for the Colonials. Porras, the first GW player to be named a Second Team All-American (2012-13 and 2014-15) has represented her home country of Colombia at the Worlds and Pan American Games, and that international experience has prepared her well for 2015-16.  With an experienced squad, George Washington should be in the mix for a position in the Howe Cup.
