Middlebury, VT — Middlebury has named Mark Lewis as its new head men’s and women’s squash coach.
Lewis becomes the third men’s coach and fifth women’s coach for Middlebury. He takes over for interim coach Mike Morgan, who led the Panther programs last season after longtime coach John Illig passed away in the summer of 2014.
According to Middlebury Director of Athletics Erin Quinn, “I am excited to have Mark Lewis join our staff and community as the head men’s and women’s squash coach. Mark’s squash credentials are outstanding and will ensure that the student-athletes in our programs will receive excellent coaching. Mark is also an outstanding educator, so the impact he will have on the squash program will go well beyond the courts.”
For the past six seasons, Lewis has coached the boys’ and girls’ varsity teams at the Potomac School, an independent school in McLean, VA. He guided the Potomac Panthers to tremendous success. He led the girls’ team to three regional championships in the past four years. For the boys’ team, Potomac captured four regional championships and had three undefeated seasons.
Lewis, a 1993 graduate from Trinity College, is not a stranger to college squash. He was a Second Team All-American in 1991. During his senior year he captained the Bantams. He also has collegiate coaching experience. He worked with the Georgetown men’s and women’s club squash teams.
As a member of the US National Team, Lewis represented the United States in international competition. He coached the US Junior National boys and served on the board of US Squash. Lewis has served as the squash professional at the Union Boat Club in Boston and as the Executive Director of the DC Squash Academy in Washington, D.C.
