Northampton, MA — For the week ending 1/18/2015, Trinity’s Anna Kimberley and Hobart’s Danny Cabrera have been named the women’s and men’s [hpow].

A [hpow] should have a significant impact on his or her team’s performance during the prior week and demonstrate sportsmanship. Coaches and Sports Information Directors may nominate players.

Anna Kimberley (Trinity College): During Wednesday’s match, then 2nd-ranked Trinity hosted 3rd-ranked Penn. Over the weekend, Penn had defeated top-ranked Harvard and would be named the top-ranked team the following day. With the team match tied 4-4, the #3s, Trinity sophomore Anna Kimberley and Penn first-year Melissa Alves, met to decide the match. Alves tied the match at two games a piece, but Kimberley won the final game to capture the match (10-12, 11-6, 11-6, 6-11, and 11-6).

Danny Cabrera (Hobart College): In 26th-ranked Hobart’s 5-4 upset of 22nd-ranked Bowdoin, each match was critical. At the match at the #8 position, Hobart’s junior captain, Danny Cabrera, faced Bowdoin freshman George Cooley. Cabrera captured the first two games, but Cooley battled back to tie the match at two games apiece. In the fifth game, Cabrera won 11-6 to capture the individual match (11-8, 11-6, 8-11, 7-11, and 11-6) and the vital victory in the Statesmen’s team win.
