Palo Alto, CA — Stanford concluded last season as the 2nd highest ranked club team in the nation. The team is eager to reclaim the distinction of being the top club. The team is also focused on moving up the rankings. “Our goal is to try and win the Conroy Cup (D Division) or possibly get into the Summers Cup (C Division),” explains head coach Mark Talbott. Therefore, the team is focused on matches with Hobart, Bucknell, and Hamilton, teams just ahead of them in the rankings at the conclusion of last season. The Cardinal lost 3 players from last season’s starting line-up from Team Championships but is expecting two players to join the heart of their ladder. Talbott added that, “We have a good mix this year of younger players and upperclassmen. You never know who will turn up at tryouts for this diverse and well traveled team!” The squad only has one senior, Nick Xu, an architecture major. Xu will join Will McFarlane and Vihan Khanna as tri-captains of the team. Look for this season to be a building block for the future of Stanford squash.
