Northampton, MA — As the regular season winds down, there were many crucial matches this week.
The week began on Monday with MIT’s shutout of Boston University.
On Tuesday, Harvard visited Trinity. In a rematch of last season’s men’s and women’s national championship finals, the showdown featured four undefeated squads. In the women’s match, the Crimson women escaped with a 5-4 victory over the Bantams. In the men’s match, Harvard handed the Bantams their first defeat since the 2012 Potter Cup finals. The 2-7 loss was Trinity’s first defeat at home since 1996, ending a 162 undefeated streak at home.
Also on Tuesday, both Yale squads defeated Brown. The St. Lawrence men defeated Hamilton, while the Continental women defeated St. Lawrence. The Tufts women defeated Northeastern, 8-1.
On Wednesday, the Hamilton women shutout William Smith.
Boston College and Northeastern squared off on Thursday. In the women’s match, BC earned a 7-2 win. In the men’s match, Northeastern won, 7-2.
Friday featured many Ivy League matches. Both Dartmouth squads defeated Brown, while both Princeton squads surpassed Columbia. Harvard visited Connecticut for the second time in the same week. Harvard defeated both Yale teams. The Penn women defeated Cornell, while the Penn men fell to the Big Red, 8-1.
In Friday’s non-Ivy action, the Franklin & Marshall men shutout George Washington, while the Colonials’ women returned the favor by defeating F&M, 9-0. Cornell defeated Hobart and William Smith. Boston University defeated Bryant.
On Saturday, Trinity started a new winning streak by defeating the St. Lawrence men, 6-3. The Bantam women also defeated St. Lawrence.
The NYU men and the Haverford men both defeated Swarthmore. The Haverford men also earned a victory over NYU, 6-3, while the Haverford women shutout NYU.
Navy visited Franklin & Marshall. The Diplomats earned an 8-1 victory. The Conn College men defeated Bryant and BC, both by a 8-1 margin. Boston College shutout Bryant.
The Virginia women were victorious over Georgetown, while the Hoyas’ men edged Virginia, 5-4. Both George Washington squads defeated Virginia and Bucknell. The Virginia women shutout Bucknell, while the Bison men shutout Virginia.
The NYU women edged Rochester, 5-4, while William Smith shutout Colgate.
On Sunday, Yale visited and defeated both Dartmouth squads. Cornell visited Princeton. In the women’s match, the Tigers won, while in the men’s match, the Big Red earned a 6-3 victory.
Both Harvard squads defeated Brown to finish the regular season undefeated. Both Crimson squads won the 2013 – 2014 Ivy League titles.
St. Lawrence visited Wesleyan. The St. Lawrence women earned a 5-4 victory, while the men shutout the Cardinals.
The Columbia men lost 4-5 to Penn, while the Penn women defeated the Lions, 9-0.
Results from the Division III Individual Invitational were unavailable at the time of publication.
Coaches and Team Contacts, please remember to enter your team’s results in the US Squash Scoring System on the day of each match. Each player must be named in the results (“Not on Roster” entries will not be tolerated) or penalties may be applied.
Schools are reminded that to qualify for the National Team Championships, a minimum number of matches must be played at specific periods of the season:
- Varsity teams are required to play ten (10) matches against other CSA teams to enter team championships. At minimum, each team should have at least 6 different opponents. Varsity teams should play the majority of their matches against other varsity schools.
- Club teams are required to play eight (8) matches against other CSA teams to enter team championships. In addition, club teams must play at least four (4) matches between January 1st and February 10th. At minimum, each team should have at least five (5) different opponents.
For a regular season match to officially count for ranking purposes, each team must have at least seven players. Except for Emerging Teams, matches with less than seven players per team will not count towards the required number of matches for entry into the National Team Championships.
