Northampton, MA — For the week ending 1/12/2014, Bates’ Rakey Drammeh and Penn’s Jack Maine have been named the women’s and men’s [hpow].

A [hpow] should have a significant impact on his or her team’s performance during the prior week and demonstrate sportsmanship. Coaches and Sports Information Directors may nominate players.

Rakey Drammeh (Bates College): Williams visited Bates on Saturday to renew the school’s NESCAC rivalry. Williams was seeking revenge for the 4-5 lose to Bates at the 2013 Team Championships.  In the match at the #7 position, Bates senior Rakey Drammeh faced Williams first-year Alyssa Ritchie. Drammeh won in four games (9-11, 11-2, 11-9, and 11-6), helping the Bobcats record a 5-4 victory over the Ephs.

Jack Maine (University of Pennsylvania): On Saturday, the 13th-ranked Penn Quakers visited the 10th-ranked Dartmouth Big Green to open their Ivy League season.  In the match at the #8 position, Jack Maine, Penn’s junior co-captain, faced Dartmouth’s Bayard Kuensell. The pair played a five-game thriller that culminated with an 11-9 deciding game. Maine captured the match (3-11, 14-12, 6-11, 11-3, and 11-9) to record one of Penn’s five individual match victories. The Quakers earned their first victory over Dartmouth since the 2009 Team Championships.
