Hobart: 2013 – 2014 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Hobart College Geneva, NY — The level of play in the Liberty League has been steadily improving in recent years. While Rochester and St. Lawrence have opened a gap between them and the other Liberty League schools, Hobart has positioned themselves for improvement with a large incoming class. There will be eight members of the class of 2017 on the Statesmen’s roster, and most of those players bring prep squash experience with them. The new players are Hayden Dunham (Berkshire School), Fernando Flores (Trinity Pawling), Scott Marcus (Penn Charter), Artie Martella (Woodlynde School), Beau Orchard (Westminster School), Felipe Pantle (Millbrook School), Jack Richardson (Episcopal High School), and Ben Shapiro (Riverdell Regional High School). Billy Abrams, a rising senior, will also join the Hobart squad after transferring from the Naval Academy. Head coach Tim Riskie has identified Hamilton, Connecticut College, Bowdoin, Colby, Stanford, and Georgetown as key opponents. “These teams are ranked ahead of us and within the top 25,” says Riskie, who would like to see his team breach the top 25 this season.
