Northwestern: 2012 – 2013 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Evanston, IL — Things have not been going Northwestern’s way recently. At the end of the 2009-2010 season, the Wildcats were ranked 28th in the nation and were among the top club teams. Last season, they finished 53rd overall, dropping down into the G Division. The four new players on the team this year will have to step up if the Wildcats are going to climb back the rankings;  four of the top six players from last season will not be returning. On the plus side, the four new players are all expected to play in the top six. Richard Beaumont and Spencer Powell will fill in spaces left in the top 3, and Amaar Nanabhai and Karan Vaidya will likely play in the middle of the order. “Our team is very young,” explains captain Eitezaz Mahmood. “We have a lot of freshmen and sophomores who are very promising, and we look forward to becoming even better in the upcoming years.” After struggling to meet match requirements last season, the Wildcats are already planning a trip to the West Coast Round Robin. Says Mahmood, “We are looking forward to an exciting season and plan on playing many more matches!” After a rough 2011-2012, the Wildcats look to be headed in the right direction.
