Amherst: 2012 – 2013 Men’s College Squash Season Preview

Amherst, MA — Amherst’s goal for this season is straightforward: improve upon last season’s finish. The Jeffs were ranked 21st at the end of last season based on their fifth-place finish in the Summers Cup. Moving back into the top twenty won’t be easy, as the B and C Divisions have become increasingly competitive over the last few years. Three seniors from Amherst’s top nine graduated last season, leaving spots throughout the ladder, and Rodrigo Miranda, who played number 7 last year, will be abroad for the fall semester. The Jeffs will reload their roster with five incoming players: Noah Brown, Steve Cacouris, Kelvin Chen, and Chris Groot. Expect Amherst’s team to be on the younger side, as four of the returning players from last season’s championship roster  (number 1 Scott DeSantis, number 6 Max Kardon, number 8 Alex Southmayd, and number 10 Jake Albert) are members of the class of 2015. “Last year’s incoming class made significant contributions to the team and with an additional year of experience they should be even better,” head coach Peter Robson reports. The Jeffs will be hoping their new crop of players will be able to make similar strides and contribute to the team from early on.
