Northampton, MA — The following is a statement from the Men’s College Squash Association Executive Committee:
The decision by Baset Chaudry from Trinity College not to play in the National Individual Squash Championships scheduled for March 5-7 is an appropriate action and an acknowledgment that sportsmanship is at the foundation of the sport of squash. Baset is a two time defending champion, and we congratulate him on his squash accomplishments.
Kenny Chan, in concert with Yale University, has decided not to play in next weekend’s individual championships.
Based on the incident during the finals and our review of the situation, we are forming a committee to address the needs of communicating and living the CSA’s Code of Conduct. These results will be implemented next season.
One match should not cloud the 2009/10 season. This year we have seen tremendous growth in college squash. Many new club teams have joined the Association, a new grant program has helped fund new team development, the CSA has forged a closer working relationship with US Squash, and we have a new CSA website. All of this growth culminated in the largest men’s college team championships ever with over sixty teams and close to 600 players participating. There were so many positive experiences and so many strong relationships forged over the season. It is our collective responsibility to illuminate and amplify the good.
