Boston University Round Robin

Boston University player James Knots reports on his team’s Round Robin, which was held on November 13th – 14th.

buBoston, MA — Boston University kicked off its squash season this past weekend by hosting a round-robin between Swarthmore, the University of Vermont, and Brandeis.

The weekend began Friday night with BU playing a Brandeis team that was short two players. Boston University dominated their opponent only giving up two games in all 7 matches. We were incredibly focused and have trained hard in preparation for this weekend and it clearly paid off.

Boston University then took on Swarthmore on Saturday. We figured that Swarthmore was going to be our toughest match of the weekend after seeing their results against Siena and Bard. However, the BU team pulled out another impressive victory winning 8-1. BU’s sweep was put to an end by the Swarthmore number 1 and captain, Tarit Rao-Chakravorti, who took the BU number 1, Brian Donovan, in three games.

BU’s role in the weekend ended on Saturday night against an 8-man Vermont squad. Vermont proved to be BU’s biggest test of the weekend. One of the closest contests came at the number 9 position, where Vermont’s Page Smith outlasted BU’s  Yasmin Atefi to win in five games. However,   dominant victories from the top half of the ladder allowed BU to capture the 7-2 win.

An undefeated start to the season was exactly what we were hoping for going into the weekend, as we look to use that momentum to carry us through this next week with tough matches against MIT, Wesleyan, and Northeastern.
