Swarthmore, PA — Last November, Swarthmore students started a student-run and financed squash team. The team sent a group to compete in the National Team Championships, where they finished second to the University of Illinois in the Emerging Teams division.
This season, the team has financial support from Swarthmore. They plan to field a full nine-player team and have even hired a part-time coach, Enamullah Khan. Coach Khan is the local pro at the Springfield Healthplex. Swarthmore will use the courts at the Springfield Healthplex as their home venue for the 2009-2010 season. The team members trained over the summer and are looking forward to a few new players that will help complete their ladder.
As with any team that has improved, Swarthmore is looking forward to this season’s matches. Swarthmore is excited to face Haverford College, its traditional rival. In addition, the team plans to compete at the Boston University Round Robin.
